Halloween Makeup Looks You’ll Want to Recreate

Hey everyone!

Halloween is quickly approaching, and in my own ventures to find a costume(s). I have been stumbling across TONS of halloween make up looks. I absolutely love halloween, and I love the creativity that comes with it. This year, I’m looking to spend a little less money on a costume so this is where make up comes in handy. Doing something elaborate on your face can kind of make up for what you’re wearing. No one will care what you’re wearing when your make up is COOL AS FUHHH. Alternatively, if you already have a killer costume, finding some matching makeup will only elevate it to the next level. I thought I’d share with you some looks.

  1. Clown makeup. I know…it sounds weird but this is so versatile because you can make it as creepy or as cute as you want it to be. With the release of the movie IT I think we’ll be seeing a lot of clown costumes this year, so if you’re really interested in being unique maybe this one isn’t for you.unicorn make up.jpg
  2. Something I saw that was really unique was a makeup look for a unicorn. Typically you see a lot of black cats, and bunnies for Halloween. Last year there was an explosion of deer makeup and I don’t think that will die out this year either. But if you’re looking to do something different try this look out.white sugar skull makeup.jpg
  3. I know doing a skeleton for Halloween is typical. You see people do it all the time with make up, but something about how this look has been done in white is so pretty to me! I’m obsessed with it!!fairy makeup.jpg
  4. I could probably go on forever showing you guys make up looks I found on pinterest (because you should all know I’m in a very serious relationship with pinterest at this point). But an idea I seriously LOVE and am thinking about doing, is a fairy! And I absolutely LOVE this look. Everything about it is on point, and just looking at the face you know she’s a fairy!!

That’s all the looks I’m going to show you for now. I can’t wait to see what people are being for Halloween this year, I love seeing the trends, and unique costumes. This is probably one of my favorite holidays of the whole year. Do you know what you’re being for Halloween yet? Let me know in the comments section below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page all linked below!

2018 Fall Bucket List

Hey everyone!

You might remember a similar post from me….this is because last year I posted a fall bucket list! I thought it would be kind of interesting to look back on last years post and maybe tweak or add some new items to the list. I really want to challenge my followers to try new things. Maybe something on this list is a little out of your element, or something you wouldn’t normally do, OR have never done before! TRY IT! These are also classic fall activities that would be great for a date, for a family to spend time together, to do as a study break with your room mates. I also think it’s great to not be glued to a computer or television all the time, I know that’s a little ironic considering that I’m literally on a computer typing this, but it’s nice to get out and enjoy life! Anyways, without further ado, here is the bucket list you should try:

  1. Go Apple Picking – this is a great one for the family (one reason being it’s less work when you bring all the kids). It makes for great pictures, it’s nice time spent outside, and it sets up some other great fall activities
  2. BAKE STUFF – You can use the apples you picked to make a yummy apple pie or apple crisp. You can also bake cookies (obviously the Pilsbury ones with the pumpkin on top). There’s nothing better than on a crisp fall evening than eating a warm cooked treat.
  3. Other ways to use those apples: make applesauce, make apple cinnamon sangria, make candy apples, apple cider, and if you make all of this and STILL have left over apples just shoot me a message because I’m in a strong relationship with Pinterest right now so I’m sure I could find some great recipes for you.
  4. Pick Pumpkins! – Going to a pumpkin patch is a classic fall activity, again it can make for some really cute pictures, but a pumpkin patch usually has some other activities that are fun in the fall: hay rides, and corn mazes! One pumpkin patch I’ve been to had a contest who could sling shot a pumpkin the farthest…that was also pretty cool!
  5. Pumpkins also provide you with something to carve jack-o-lanterns out of!
  6. AAAAAND when you carve them, you can get their yummy seeds out of them and make pumpkin seeds
  7. Stay in and have a Halloween movie marathon to get you in the mood for halloween
  8. MAKE your own halloween costume instead of buying one (be a little creative)
  9. Throw a halloween party (or if you’re not a hostess with the mostess go to a halloween party)
  10. Have a picnic – enjoy the nice weather before it starts snowing. This one is super simple guys you could pack sandwiches and chips and it would be great! Just something to get outdoors and enjoy the weather.
  11. Explore your town/city a bit. Try a new bakery, coffee shop, restaurant.
  12. Rake up the autumn leaves, make a big pile, and jump in it! Again, this one is great family fun, but it can also tidy up your yard at the same time.
  13. If you live in Ontario, there are a couple places you definitely need to check out if you LOVE Halloween. If you’re into haunted houses, and scary stuff definitely check out Reapers Realm in Sarnia, and Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan.

That’s about all I have for my Fall Bucket List this year! If you think I’m missing something let me know in the comment section below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page which are all linked below. If you try anything on my bucket list be sure to share it with me on Instagram, you can tag me in it or use the hashtag #lexisfallbucketlist

My Makeup Routine

Hey everyone!

The other day I used Instagrams latest feature polls to ask my followers if they wanted to see a step by step of my makeup routine and just about 80% of them voted yes! I’m still contemplating doing a live video showing exactly how I do my makeup because writing it out tells you WHAT I do but it doesn’t show you HOW I do it. But, it’s kind of nerve wracking to do live videos. If you are wanting to see a live video definitely let me know either in the comments below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page which will all be linked at the bottom of this blog post. Lets get started ūüôā

I would like to note that I am not a make up artist this may not be the best or most proper routine out there!

Before I begin my makeup regime I make sure to moisturize my face. I don’t have an exact reason why I do this…I just do LOL really helpful I know.

After moisturizing my skin I make sure to use a primer, specifically I use Maybellines Master Prime in 300 it has a green tint that helps with redness! At first I was interested in colour correcting the redness from pimples on my face but I thought this would kill two birds with one stone. I prefer to use a primer because I find it creates a barrier between your face and the products you’re about to pile on your face. I’ve had less breakouts since using a primer so for me this primer really works!

You’ll notice I use a lot of drug store makeup because 1) I’m a broke student and 2) I find they work just fine! After my primer I straight up lather my face with Maybellines Fit Me liquid foundation. Following up with the Fit Me collections primer on top of any blemishes and under my eyes. I prefer to use concealer over top of my liquid foundation because I feel that the liquid should cover most or any redness and can save me a lot of concealer. I also feel applying liquid foundation after concealer just pushes the concealer around.

After using the liquid foundation and concealer I go over my face with Maybellines Fit Me pressed powder foundation using a fluffy brush and a patting motion rather than a swishing motion. I prefer to pat pressed powder on to my face again, to not move the concealer around. The purpose of using pressed powder after the liquid foundation and concealer is to matte the face rather than leave it looking oily.

Post foundation I make the decision if I want to contour my face or not. Lately I’ve been working on getting better at contouring so almost any look I’ve done in the past 6 months has included contouring. To begin I use my Sephora Collection brozer to create my initial contour making sure to blend the product to create less of a harsh line.

After this I proceed with the contouring process and I begin to apply blush to the apples of my cheeks. However, I do not high light after applying blush. I actually leave highlighting until the end of my makeup routine because I find when I apply eye makeup after my highlight I end up rubbing off a lot of the glow.

Moving on, after my face is (mostly) finished I move on to my eyebrows. I’m actually looking to change up my eyebrow routine, I’m really considering purchasing a brow pomade, however, right now I just use eye shadow that matches my eye brow colour, and then I use Rimmel London’s ‘Brow This Way’ eyebrow gel to make sure they stick in place.

If I decide to do eye shadow now is when I would do it! But if I don’t do any eye shadow I still make sure to place a highlighting colour in the inner corner of my eye and under my brow bone.

Post eye shadow (or no eye shadow) I apply liquid eyeliner to form a winged eye liner look, as mentioned on Instagram I alwaaaayssss do a winged eyeliner look. It’s just something I find flattering and I’ve basically perfected it over the years. I don’t have a specific brand that I use for this, just whatever black liquid eyeliner is cheapest at the drug store usually.

I also always make sure to line the top water line with a black eye liner, I use Marc Jacobs black high liner to do this. This ensures there is no awkward line of skin in between the eye lid and the eye ball itself. And finally, I top it all off with mascara! Again, I don’t have a specific brand I use I just pick out the cheapest thing at the drug store.

To finish off my make up routine, I apply my highlighter and lock in my face with my setting spray from Urban Decay.

……aaaand thats it folks! I know it might be a lot to take in! BUT if you think I could add, or change anything in that routine PLEASE feel free to drop some opinions in the comments, and if you’re dying to see a live video of me actually applying the makeup let me know as well!

Recipes for Thanksgiving

Hey everyone!

The other day I tried a new recipe (and I wasn’t a huge fan). Thankfully, my boyfriend basically has no taste buds and will eat anything so he ate it. I didn’t y’know…burn it, or mess up the recipe, I just personally didn’t enjoy the taste. Anyways, Dan told me I should keep a journal of recipes that I try, and enjoy to act like a personal cook book. He said his grandma has one, and it’s kind of a neat idea that it could be passed down as well. So I took his advice…bought a journal…dug through pinterest to find the recipes I’ve used to put in this hand written cook book…and I stumbled upon the two desserts I attempted to make last year for thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving in Canada is coming up this weekend, which in addition to my recent cook book writing adventure, has inspired this blog post. I thought I would share with you some interesting pinterest recipes I’ve found that you should try…I would like to make a disclaimer that other than the first 2 recipes, I have not made these recipes..so it may be best to test it out before the day of in case it’s not good LOL

  1. Of course, I have to post a classic, Apple Crisp recipe. This is the recipe I use and is famous at my house! If you want an AMAZING apple crisp recipe click the link provided https://www.kitchentrials.com/2015/10/09/best-ever-apple-crisp/
  2. Last year I also attempted a little twist on pumpkin pie, this recipe is called “Pumpkin Pie Crunch” Scratch the pie crust and it includes cake! Who doesn’t love cake???¬†¬†https://www.spendwithpennies.com/pumpkin-pie-crunch/
  3. If you want to go a more traditional pumpkin pie (but still with a little twist) try this recipe! This recipe is for Fireball Whisky Pumpkin Pie YEP THAT’S RIGHT alcoholic desserts..You didn’t know you needed this until now. You’re welcome¬†https://turquoisetoffee.wordpress.com/2016/09/29/fireball-whisky-pumpkin-pie/
  4. You guys know I’m all about that crock pot life right now. Here’s a recipe to make stuffing in the crock pot, so while your main course of turkey/ham/chicken (what have you) is cooking, your stuffing can be cooking too! Less work for you to do! It can cook on low for up to 5 hours, that’s 5 hours of other stuff you could be doing!¬†https://nourishingjoy.com/thanksgiving-stuffing-slow-cooker/
  5. Sweet potatoes are what make everyone (or almost everyone) piss their pants when it gets close to the holidays. If you’re not into sweet potatoes…stop making them like your mom used to and put some hair on your chest and try this recipe. It’s Brown Sugar Glazed Sweet Potatoes with Marshmellows. Eat sweet potatoes like an adult…..with marshmellows. I haven’t tried this but I won’t die happy until I do¬†https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Brown-Sugar-Glazed-Sweet-Potatoes-with-Marshmallows-813

I’m not going to give alternate recipes for the big guns, like the proteins, or personally, I think mashed potatoes are perfect all on their own, so I won’t provide any alternative recipes for them. However I thought I’d share one more recipe with you all. This recipe might help get the kids to eat their vegetables. It’s a garlic broccoli and cauliflower bake. Perfect addition to the thanksgiving meal to get some more vegetables on the plate, but they’re covered with garlic and cheese so they won’t even notice they’re eating vegetables!¬†https://diethood.com/garlicky-cheesy-cauliflower-broccoli-bake/

I would love to hear about your Thanksgiving! What recipes are a hit at your thanksgiving? Leave me a comment below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page. If you use any of the recipes let me know how they taste!

Bye September…HELLO OCTOBER

Hey everyone!

It’s the beginning of a new month, and you all know what that means by now! NEW GOALS. To start todays blog post I will be talking about Septembers goals, and then moving into my goals for October!

So, as you can see from my daily goal tracker, it took a little bit to get my motivation back. It’s not 100% back yet (there’s not a whole lot of colour going on there) I’m happy that I was able to bounce back from my little detour and not loose all of my progress.

I did remove some items from my previous goals because I just simply didn’t think I’d do them. For the month of September these were my goals:

  • Go to the Gym
  • Drink 1 Water Bottle a Day
  • Eat a 300 calorie breakfast
  • Wake up before 10AM
  • No eating after 10 PM
  • No Caffeine

I’m not sure how to judge how my goals went this month because I know I’m slacking on my goals a little bit HOWEVER I’m proud of getting back out of the rut I was in. It’s not my best showing, but it’s not where I was last month!

For this month Dan and I have made a pact to not drink alcohol and to not eat pizza! I’m not putting that goal on my daily goal tracker but it is a goal I’m setting for this month.

I’m also making an attempt this month to incorporate more protein into my diet. I find my diet is mostly carbs. It is important to get all macronutrients in your diet including protein, carbohydrates, and fats. (yes I said fat). I find I’m mostly taking in carbs like bread, dairy, sugars, etc. I want to make a conscious effort to incorporate a little more protein in my diet.

For my 300 calorie breakfast in particular, I would typically eat a bagel, or 2 slices of raisin bread. These are just under 300 calories and really easy to grab in the morning…however they’re ALL carbs. I want to start my day by making a different choice.

On my daily goal tracker my yellow (300 calorie breakfast) square will be divided in half. If I eat a 300 calorie breakfast, half of it will be coloured in. If I eat a 300 calorie breakfast that has protein in it, I can colour the full square in.

Besides this slight change to my daily goal tracker I have decided to not add any goals, and see how well this one goal does and go from there! I think the biggest thing you can do for yourself is to remind you why you’re creating these goals, or setting these goals. For me, it’s amazing to look back and think “1 year ago today, I was setting a goal to drink 1 water bottle a day” That was one of my only goals…to drink water LOL. Now I’m looking into changing my eating. It’s all about creating a better you, but like I just mentioned, one year ago I was taking baby steps. I’m still taking baby steps, but with every goal I’m a bit better of a person than I was before.

What are your goals for October? Leave me a comment below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page.

Learning How To Contour

Hey everyone!

Over the course of the summer I watched about 3 seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and a million and one Youtube tutorials on how to contour. It took me about 3 years to perfect my liquid lipstick application, so now I have turned my attention to learn something new! My relationship with makeup is very pure, I enjoy playing around with makeup and learning new tricks, I find it more of an art. It’s fun to do, and at sometimes calming, I don’t use makeup as a security blanket to go out in public. I’m perfectly fine to leave the house with a fresh face. I just enjoy playing with makeup to enhance features, or to even create features you don’t have.

To begin, if anyone is unsure of what contouring is, it is the art of strategically and quite literally painting your face to create depth in the cheek bones and to either create the illusion of structured cheekbones, or to enhance your already prominent cheekbones. Contouring entails creating a shadow or the literal “contour” under the cheekbone, a blush to give your face some colour (not everyone partakes in this portion of the contouring process) and a highlight (to accentuate the high point of the cheek).

I began this summer, teaching myself how to contour with products I already had…this included a blush I already had (I can’t even tell you the brand it’s old and cheap) and I used a pressed powder foundation from e.l.f cosmetics, it actually was my summer foundation from a couple years ago because I tan remarkably well in the summer time…however now I just work full time and am pale AF.

With learning to contour, I’ve upgraded my products as you can see I’ve done reviews of Tarte Cosmetics blush and the Sephora Collection blush. I’ve discussed Urban Decay’s body shimmer pressed highlight powder, and in the featured photograph above is a bronzer from the Sephora Collection (for any of you curious I do plan on discussing this bronzer in a separate post).

My first step is to learn how to contour with powders which are a little more subtle than a cream contour I’ve started out subtle because although I enjoy playing with makeup…it is on your face and it’s nerve wracking to mess up because….if you mess up…everyone can see it. I’d rather get my technique down pat and then progress into cream contour which takes a bit more finesse. Even though this look would be considered subtle it still sculpts the face, creating a contour. What I’ve learned the MOST is to blend, blend, blend. Even when you think your contour has been blended well…..KEEP BLENDING. I think this can be applicable to eyeshadow too! Even if you aren’t into contouring, or if you have it on fleek you can apply this lesson to another part of makeup!

I want to eventually learn to use a cream contour with a powder over top to create a more dramatic look. I want to expand my knowledge of makeup, but also learn to create a variety of looks as well. I’m not a makeup artist by any means, so some of my readers out there might think this is a ridiculous goal but I’m enjoying learning as I go!

For any of my readers out there who are in the same boat as myself, make up enthusiasts who want to learn to contour, I seriously recommend watching many different youtube tutorials! One video isn’t going to teach you much of anything…plus everyone does things a little differently. Maybe you respond to one video a little better than a different one, maybe someone has a similar face shape to yours so that one makes more sense to you. Each of these videos will help you in their own way!

I would love to hear from my makeup enthusiast readers to see what you think about contouring. Do you have any helpful tips for ya gurrl? Let me know in the comments section below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page.

Lexi

*NEW RECIPE ALERT* Slow Cooker Mac n Cheese

Hey everyone!

I’ve recently tried a new recipe, and for student cooking it wasn’t half bad so I figured I’d share it with you all LOL. I’m a huge fan of crock pot recipes because I can continue being productive while my dinner cooks, and this particular recipe I thought was interesting! It’s not your usual slow cooker recipe, mac and cheese in the slow cooker!? I never really considered that would be a slow cooker recipe but it’s so good (and no it’s not a box of kraft dinner in a crock pot) So if I’ve captured your attention and now you’re curious keep reading.

First of all, I’d like to give credit when credit is due…I’m addicted to Pinterest and this recipe comes from the link here ->¬†https://www.spendwithpennies.com/ultra-cream-mac-n-cheese-in-the-slow-cooker/¬†So I would like to thank pinterest for providing me with delicious recipes. Readers, you’re more than welcome to follow along here, or click on the link and follow it from the original site!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked macaroni noodles
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard powder
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 4 cups of cheddar

Directions

  • Boil macaroni noodles until cooked through (if you don’t know how to cook noodles I seriously cannot help you LOL)
  • Combine all the ingredients including cooked noodles in a crock pot and cook on high for 2 hours or low for 3 hours stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot

It’s super simple to make and really doesn’t cost THAT much money. I read on this website that you can add more or less mayo and sour cream, depending on how creamy you want it BUT if you add too much mayo it WILL over power the dish with a mayo taste. I’m not a HUGE fan of mayo so I might use a little less than the 1/2 cup the next time I make this dish. I also used medium cheese so it would be interesting to see how it tastes if I mix some different cheeses together.

This recipe is NOT an all day cooking one! So if you want something that will cook all day while you’re at work for 8 hours this ISNT it! It only needs to be in the crock pot for max 3 hours AND you have to cook the noodles prior to. So this one is a little more maintenance than other slow cooker recipes.

If you try this recipe I would LOVE to hear from you! Leave me a comment about it below, on my Facebook page or on my Instagram page!

Til next time,

Lexi
