Dorm Decorating!

Hey everyone!

I’m pretty sure July didn’t even happen….where did it go?! And now we’re mid August already….WTF. Back to school season is coming in full swing, so I thought I would post a couple school related blog posts, and to start I’m talking about dorm decorating! I know I posted a blog post last year about this, but this year I’m going to be showing some of my favs and providing links if any of you want to shop the items in this blog post ūüôā

To begin, here are some things I learned when living in a dorm room:

  1. Find ways to make your room YOURS, not just a room you’re sleeping in. This is why I think decorating your dorm room is important, make it a space YOU want to be in.
  2. Being away from home might be hard at first, bring things that remind you of home. Whether that’s hanging pictures on the wall, having a candle that smells like home, just bring something you’ll be happy you did.
  3. When arranging your room, look at the outlets on the wall and place furniture accordingly. You don’t want to be using extension cords to charge your phone by your bed or something silly like that.
  4. Try not to overwhelm your bedroom, even the picture above seems super pretty but if you’re an average human being it’s going to get really messy really quick.

But moving on, if you’re lacking inspiration to decorate your room here are some of my top picks to help:

shelf divider.jpg

  1. First of all, if your room is smaller you need to get a little creative with how you store things. This shelf divider can fit in your closet, under your bed, and adds storage space without taking up too much space! And even better, this one is less than $8 at storage solutions shop this link http://www.solutions-stores.ca/shelf-divider-10-pockets-grey/pineapple candle.jpg
  2. I personally love when my room smells great. I use scentsy wax melters BUT I found this the other day and I WANT IT SO BAD. Obviously it’s adorable and looks like a pineapple, but it’s also from Charmed Aroma, so that means there’s a pretty ring hiding inside there somewhere. If you want one for yourself shop this link¬†https://ca.charmedaroma.com/products/pineapplestring lights.jpg
  3. Add your own little flair to your room…and TRUST me there is SO many ways to do this, you could add these string lights from Chapters¬†https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/house-and-home/copper-string-led-30-light/037916929705-item.html?ikwsec=HouseAndHome&ikwidx=15tapestry.jpg
  4. I have a similar tapestry (to the photo above) hanging up in my room and maybe that’s how you want to add your own personality to the room, shop TONS of tapestries on Society 6 here¬†https://society6.com/tapestriesstitch posterrrr.jpg
  5. If you’re more into pop culture, hang up some posters (that you already own) OR shop some posters from Hot Topic here http://www.hottopic.com/home/wall-art/¬†(I picked my favorite to feature but trust me they have so many different posters to look through)

That’s all from my end everyone! If you’re moving into a dorm this year GOOD LUCK, you’ll have such a great time! If you’ve already lived in a dorm and think I’ve forgotten something leave me a comment below, on my Facebook page or on my Instagram page all linked below! I love hearing your response. Thanks again to all the people that read my blog it means so much to me xoxo

Superfoods???

Hey everyone!

Today I’m going to be talking about superfoods…what they are (or supposed to be). What inspired this blog post today came from trying to bounce back into my monthly goals. I want to of course get back to my usual going to the gym, eating a 300 calorie breakfast, avoiding caffeine. But I also wanted to start looking into making healthier choices when eating. I’ve taken 2 nutrition courses throughout my University career so far, and a lot of times I see people preaching these “super foods” online and I think I just wanted to talk about it for a second to maybe inspire others to do their own research, or to maybe shed some light on a topic.

So by definition, a super food is; a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well being. To be honest, there are A LOT of foods that could be considered nutrient-rich and beneficial for health and well being……

In my humble opinion, I really don’t think calling a food a “super food” makes it better than any other food. I’ve seen so many people preaching chia seeds, blue berries, avocados, coconut oil for being these “super food” items. And YES I’ve been one of them, in fact I believe I’ve posted a blog post about almost all of the items I’ve listed because YES they do have some amazing benefits. However, I think ALL foods can have some amazing benefits you just have to do some research to find out what they are.

At this point I’m pretty much just rambling, but it was something I really felt needed to be put out there. Don’t just follow trends in eating by what you see being filtered to your news feeds. If you want to eat healthier, choose natural products, less chemicals. This is how I’m picking healthier options, and I definitely think it’s the best way to go!

What do you think about super foods? Leave me a comment below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page.

August Goals

Hey everyone!

So a couple posts ago I shared with you all how busy this month has been for me. I think everything has settled down for the most part but I do have a confession to make….for this entire month not only did I not do my goal tracker I also hardly kept up with my goals! I made the decision to take a small break for this past month, and to start again fresh for August.

I think the most important part about taking a pause from my goals is to not just give up because I stopped for a little bit. I also don’t think it would be very wise to lowball my goals just because I didn’t do them for a month.I am going to resume my goals that I had put in place for JUNE (remember because I didn’t change anything for July). If I’m not keeping up with my goals I can always adjust them at the end of the month when I analyze my goal tracker but why completely start over without at least trying to get back into it!

For others who have found that they took a pause from their goals DON’T GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! I understand sometimes it’s defeating to feel like all of your progress has gone away, but EVERYONE needs a break here and there and that’s a part of being human. Don’t overwhelm yourself but don’t just give up because you took a pause. Just ease back into your goals.

Since it’s been a while I’ll recap the goals I had set for June for you guys:

  1. Go to the gym 3-4 times a week
  2. Drink 1 water bottle a day
  3. Eat a 300 calorie breakfast every day
  4. Wake up before 10AM
  5. NO eating after 10PM
  6. Daily push ups
  7. No Caffeine

Each month I had been doing my daily push ups I had added 5 seconds to the time (that doesn’t seem like a lot but trust me when you can hardly do push ups and you’re doing them for 5 seconds longer it feels like forever) So I’m going to go back down to 1 minute to start since I haven’t done them in so long.

I WILL be doing a Daily Goal Tracker for August and hopefully this will get me back on track so I can start adding some new goals! It’s crazy to think that come September it will be a year since I started these monthly goals!

What are your goals for August? Leave me a comment below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page and tell me all about it!

Summer Staples

Hey Everyone!

Today I’m going to be going over some summer favorites that I think should be in your closet! I’ll be giving a little description but also attaching a link where you can find similar items to purchase if you’re really loving what you see here!

So first things first I’m in LOVE with t-shirt dresses! I love how you can dress them up with heels or make them more casual with a pair of flats, and I find that they’re flattering on every body type! Heres an example of how to dress them up:

tshirt dress

If you like this t-shirt dress OR want to see some more SUPER affordable options (ranging from $15-25 Canadian) click here -> http://www.forever21.com/ca/Product/Product.aspx?br=F21&category=dress&productid=2000086951

Moving on, something that EVERYONE needs in their life especially during the summer months….SUNGLASSES. I’m not a huge fan of spending A LOT of money on sunglasses….because um??? They’re sunglasses! But every year the cheap pairs that I buy BREAK and I end up having to get a new pair anyways, so what if I spent more money and they lasted longer? Well, if you’re interested in spending a little more on sunglasses Quay Australia has the artsiest sunglasses, especially their collaboration with Kylie Jenner.

They’re really sleek, but unique at the same time! Of course this website offers more than one pair of sunglasses, so if you’re interested in looking at their website you can click here ->¬†https://www.quayaustralia.com/collections/women

I know the whole choker trend isn’t some new phenomenon, but they’re STILL a cute accessory (and they could probably go with one of those t-shirt dresses I just showed you)

DIY Shoe Whitening

Hey everyone!

I know for a fact everyone has their favorite pair of shoes that they always wear, for me that’s my white Keds. HOWEVER wearing my white Keds all the time eventually means my white Keds are not white anymore…so I started looking up ways to bring some life back to them! I know you can bleach white clothes to get stains out or to brighten them up so I figured there had to be something I could do to these white shoes.

Before I tell you what I did to my shoes I figured I would show you a before and after picture so you could really understand how these transformed

Before:

20170717_114951

After:

20170723_115404

OKAY SO…A little disclaimer: I wanted to test this out on an older pair (note the holes in the shoes) these shoes were REALLY dirty and I KNEW they weren’t going to go back to being sparkling white BUT you can see what I did worked quite well considering how dirty these shoes really were.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A Bucket
  • Dirty Shoes
  • Warm Water
  • Oxy Clean Powder
  • A Potato Scrub Brush

Literally all I did was soak my old shoes in a bucket with warm water and oxy clean for about a day. I scrubbed them with a potato scrub brush to try and work it into the shoe. I let the shoes completely dry, and I did it again a second time. It really isn’t that difficult! What I like about the Oxy Clean is that YES you can bleach your shoes, or even throw them in the wash, but bleach is hard on shoes, Oxy Clean isn’t!

I don’t have much else to say because honestly the pictures speak for themselves, my shoes are noticeably whiter and that’s all there is to it! Let me know what you think in the comments section below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page which are all linked below.

My Eventful Week

Hey everyone!

If you know me personally, or follow my blogs Instagram page…you might have noticed that I definitely been having a very eventful week. This has resulted in myself not blogging as much! But I’m here today to tell you all the ups and downs of my past week!

It started about last Saturday…..for Fathers Day my brothers and I decided that instead of a material gift, we wanted to give our dad something he would remember SO on Saturday my family, boyfriend and I went tree trekking and zip lining in Brampton, Ontario! It was SO much fun, we did a 1km zipline over a lake, and did ropes games up in the trees I had such a great time! HOWEVER my car battery died in the parking lot….luckily I had booster cables and my parents drove separately and were able to give my car a boost!

Moving on to Sunday…I was in Guelph visiting my boyfriend and applied for a couple jobs around the town for when I return for school and I got hired on the spot at one of them! BUT THEN about an hour before I was ready to go home my next door neighbour knocked on my door to tell me that she had accidentally backed into my car, leaving a dent in my left passenger door. Not a big deal though the girl was super nice and was willing to pay for anything that needed to get done just a little hiccup in my day!

Come Monday, I stay an hour later at work because it was SUPER busy, and when I finally go to leave….my car is dead…..again. Thank God I have some of the best parents in the world because I called my dad who came out and gave my car a boost….A couple hours after I got home my mom went to zip uptown to grab some things to go with dinner…and my car was dead AGAIN. We decided to put a battery charger on my car so at 7am when I worked again my car would start…but that wasn’t the case because at 530 my dog woke me up to see that my car had caught on fire which had also caught my moms car on fire. I can’t explain how scary this was… but luckily no one was hurt, our house didn’t catch on fire, and insurance will cover the vehicles.

The next day I had a little pick me up because I got a phone call to set up an interview for another job I had applied for back on Sunday in Guelph! And I got to spend a little time with my friend Erin who was home for the day!

Thursday our burnt cars FINALLY got towed out of our laneway so it was just such a great feeling not having to come home and see them again. I had told the girl that hit my car on Sunday what had happened and that she didn’t need to worry about giving me any money because she had no reason to…and she still wanted to give me $100 just cause and wanted me to take it. I feel bad for taking the money but at the same time it’s so nice of her I just wanted to cry. On Thursday I went for my 7.4km run (I hit my summer goal in the face guys) with a decent time of 47 minutes, and after I lost my water weight I weighed myself at 125 lbs !! YAY!! Which is the lightest I have been this year!

Friday I worked, and set up a date for my interview with the 2nd job that got back to me (one day this week that wasn’t super eventful)

Saturday I got to spend time with my boyfriend who came home for the weekend, and meet up with a bunch of people I had not seen in such a long time at a local party?? I’m not sure what to call it for anyone who doesn’t live in our town LOL we call it the Street Dance, but that doesn’t explain much to someone who doesn’t know what it is.

I’m hoping this week will be a little….less busy LOL or busy with good stuff and not as much bad stuff. But the quote I used as the feature photo because it is truly my inspiration for right now…. “Grow through what you go through” this time in my life won’t last forever, and although it may not be my favorite time….it eventually will be just a memory. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me, it means so much. But even with the bad stuff that happened this week so much good has happened as well.

Till next time,

Lexi

Travel Inspiration!

Hey everyone!

My social media timeline recently has been FILLED with summer vacation posts and traveling posts….and as a broke student I can’t really afford to travel BUT what I can do is give you all some inspiration to help you pick your perfect destination. SO today I’m sharing my top 10 picks of where I would travel to if I could drop everything and go RIGHT NOW. (in no particular order)hawaii.jpg

  1. Hawaii – I have wanted to travel to Hawaii for SOOO long. Personally, I wouldn’t go to Hawaii for like a 5 day vacation, I would want to spend at least a month in Hawaii. There are so many hiking trails to explore the islands with, snorkeling, the culture itself, just EVERYTHING seems amazing!banff.jpg
  2. ¬†Banff National Park – Personally I really want to travel to British Columbia, Ontario to visit some family…but also out West is the gorgeous Banff National Park (which I would also like to explore) Like who wouldn’t want to kayak here???greece.jpg
  3. Greece – Part of me wants to travel here solely because I stupidly took Greek as an elective my first year of University and I actually want to be able to say that class was useful LMAO but besides that, Greece is absolutely beautiful and it has so much history…not a fan of Greek food but hey…wine.the philippines.jpg
  4. Philippines – This normally isn’t a place you normally see on people’s list to visit but TRUST me, the Philippines is SOOO underrated. Like just look at the photograph above. Especially if you enjoy trying new things go to this country! Try the food, experience the culture!¬†new york city.jpg
  5. New York City – A place on my bucket list is to go to New York City for New Years Eve (cliche I know..hate on me see if I care) I WANT TO DO IT ONCE And I mean I would also recommend going to all the Gossip Girl hot spots (have lunch on the steps of The Met) (again…sorry…I WANT TO DO IT)scotland.jpg
  6. Scotland – Okay first of all…THE ACCENTS are one of the reasons why I want to go there. But also, the University of Guelph is a Scottish university…my Grandfather is Scottish….But besides my personal attraction to Scotland (and the accents are a bonus) the landscape, the history, the castles, the Lochness Monster um SIGN ME UPhollywood.jpg
  7. Los Angeles, California – I know, to some of my followers it seems a little silly because they live in California…but I LIVE SO FAR AWAY I just want to see the Hollywood sign, and the Walk of Fame, and see what the hype’s about (probably not much but oh well)Venice Italy.jpg
  8. Venice, Italy – Of course, I would love to explore A LOT of Europe …. but that would be more than 10 options so I tried to pick my favorites, Venice being one of them. I seriously would love to go on a gondola ride and then eat pasta and then maybe find the cast of Jersey Shore or something LMAO.¬†turks and caicos.jpg
  9. Turks and Caicos – for a more relaxing, vacation rather than exploration Turks and Caicos is one of my top picks, it is absolutely GORGEOUS. I would gladly pay money to lay and do nothing therecolorado.jpg
  10. Colorado – For a more adventurous vacation, I would love to explore Colorado! My boyfriend has been and I just love all the photographs and hiking and the scenery there. I would absolutely love to see what it’s like for myself some day!

So there you have it! My top 10 picks for travel destinations! What would your top 10 look like? Leave me a comment below, on my Facebook page, or on my Instagram page! I would love to hear about the places you HAVE been or the places you WANT to go!
